A movie with unsettling scenery.
Watching 1920’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is kind of like consciously experiencing a nightmare. Every single set in the film is a meticulously crafted, highly stylized, utterly surreal piece of art, completely unlike anything else you’ll ever see. It’s one of the most well-known examples of German Expressionism.
The nightmarish setting of Caligari is something that needs to be seen by any film fan at least once. The story itself compliments the general weirdness of the film’s set design perfectly, too. The film is in the public domain, so why not watch it for free right now, if you haven’t?
There’s also a rather nifty sound remake from 2006, perfect for people who don’t have the attention span for silent films. The folks behind it did everything they could to preserve the spirit of the original movie, going as far as using scanned backgrounds from the original. It’s an interesting watch in its own right.
was pretty nifty, drew i quick sketch...in my drawing class. actually
biz says..” love love love this movie”
