My name is Tommy. I'm a 21-year-old college student from the primitive wilds of Kentucky who really likes horror films. Like, a lot. This blog is my tribute to them. It features creepy pictures, gifs, reviews, ramblings and fiction.

30 Day Horror Challenge - Day 15
A painfully suspenseful movie.
It’s (finally!) time to talk about one of my favorites. There are two things that House of the Devil accomplishes moreso than almost any other film:
Drives you insane with suspense.
Makes you really want pizza. Not joking.
I don’t know about you, but I can get behind both of those.
If you’re unfamiliar with the film, 2009’s House of the Devil is a disturbingly convincing throwback to satanic cult films from the ’70s and ’80s. Everything about the movie is meant to harken back to that bygone era—the look, the posters, the advertisements, and (of course!) the awesomely retro VHS release.
I’ve actually heard of people being duped into believing it was made in the ’80s.
The movie’s gimmick gives it the freedom to have a nice, slow build. It isn’t concerned with our diluted attention spans. House of the Devil takes its time to introduce its characters and make us care about them. It builds up a massive, slow-burning crescendo of tension from the opening scene until the very end. Most of the movie is just a girl hanging out in a house, but it’s so creepy.
If you’ve never seen House of the Devil, change that. You won’t regret it. =]
