My name is Tommy. I'm a 21-year-old college student from the primitive wilds of Kentucky who really likes horror films. Like, a lot. This blog is my tribute to them. It features creepy pictures, gifs, reviews, ramblings and fiction.

30 Day Horror Challenge - Day 14
An egregious misuse of the “based on true events” claim.
Virtually every movie that is “inspired by” the story of Ed Gein, ever. =P
Don’t get me wrong, I love all three of the films pictured above. I just hate the fact that they’re all “inspired by a true story”, when it’s the same story for each of them and none of them are actually anything like it.
Even Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfeld barely resembles the source material, and it’s the one that makes no bones about being an Ed Gein film!
…I really couldn’t resist that “bones” pun. I am so sorry.
But, seriously—I don’t get it. The story of Ed Gein is one true crime tale that doesn’t need to be exaggerated, but there’s still no ubiquitous, definitive film adaptation? It’s always confused me.
There’s a film from 2000—the aptly titled Ed Gein—that’s apparently pretty accurate, but not very good. I think I might give it a shot sometime.
