My name is Tommy. I'm a 21-year-old college student from the primitive wilds of Kentucky who really likes horror films. Like, a lot. This blog is my tribute to them. It features creepy pictures, gifs, reviews, ramblings and fiction.

30 Day Horror Challenge  - Day 10
A bad first movie with a great sequel.
House of 1000 Corpses isn’t bad—it’s watchable—but The Devil’s Rejects is one of my favorite horror films. The difference between them is staggering.
The biggest problem with House of 1000 Corpses is that it doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s like Zombie was trying to find some sort of middle ground between Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2—two films that are equally awesome, but couldn’t possibly be more different.
At the very least, it gives you the opportunity to watch a man murder Dwight Schrute and turn his corpse into a work of art. That’s always awesome.
Rejects, on the other hand, is nigh-on perfect.
I could—and might!—rave about it for hours. By stripping the fat from the original and shifting the tone to something more akin to a western from Hell, Zombie found his footing and put out a film that he hasn’t lived up to since.
Everything about this film is awesome. The scene where Otis kills the two country singers in the desert is one of my favorites in any movie. Honestly, Bill Moseley’s work as Otis is up there—bested only by Jack Nicholson in The Shining—as one of my favorite performances in horror history.
And the ending… it’s perfect. Just perfect. Love that movie. =]
