A movie that you like to introduce to people.
I’ve sent a lot of people in the direction of Trick ‘r Treat, since its heavily delayed release last October. And why wouldn’t I? It embodies the spirit of Halloween (my favorite holiday!) more than any other film I’ve ever seen. It’s a modern day masterpiece that should become a staple of the season.
Unfortunately, most people aren’t aware it exists. =[
I have no idea why Warner Bros. didn’t release this film theatrically. Put it out in October and the name alone would guarantee at least enough to double on the investment. The fact that it looked good and wound up being even better wouldn’t have hurt, either. It’s even got an ultra-marketable main character!
Why the heck would you delay a property like that for two years and then hastily shove it on DVD? It’s got dollar signs drawn all over it!
The movie itself is perfect, by the way. It’s an anthology film, showing us several seemingly unrelated stories that eventually converge in ways you wouldn’t expect on one rather bizarre Halloween night.
The film shifts hither and thither through time a la Pulp Fiction; it’s awesome to try and unravel the mystery as you’re seeing it. I once watched Trick ‘r Treat three times in one night, just to revel in all the foreshadowing that I didn’t notice the last time I watched it! It’s that good.
Check it out! If you like Halloween, you’ll love Trick ‘r Treat.
