A disappointing or unnecessary remake.
Does Rob Zombie’s Halloween II count? It’s a sequel to a remake, sure, but it borrows some elements from the movie that shares its namesake. For the sake of the diatribe that is about to happen, let’s count it!
This is going to be fun.
For the record, I actually liked Rob Zombie’s Halloween. It fell to pieces in the third act, but the rest of the movie was a very solid, if confused, effort. It could have been a lot worse, and Rob seemed to really want to improve on things with the sequel. It was a good effort.
When it disappointed most people, all the news sites were full of talk about how H2 was going to be “better”. It was going to be a “road movie” and a “creative new take on the character”. A lot of people suspected H2 would basically be Michael Myers in The Devil’s Rejects.
One thing was certain, though: everybody just knew H2 would be the modern horror masterpiece they thought Halloween could’ve been.
‘Till they saw it, that is.
H2 was and is an abomination and a crime against humanity. I can’t even describe it. If you haven’t seen it, don’t. Ever. Seriously. =P
