William Castle is my favorite film director. I’m enamored by his outlandish use of gimmickry and unparalleled understanding of how to make films fun. This is a man who sent skeletons swooping over his audiences on zip-lines mid-show and wired theater seats to shock unsuspecting moviegoers. He gave ticket buyers $1,000 life insurance policies in case they died from fright while watching his films. He’s fascinating.
